Caicedo transfer stance emerges as yet another Man Utd deal on brink of collapse

Moises Caicedo has previously spoken of his desire for a Manchester United switch, though the club are yet to officially bid for the midfielder.

United have been linked with a move for the Ecuador international, who has impressed at Brighton & Hove Albion. They had a chance to pick up the youngster back in 2020, but pulled out of a deal which would have cost them less than £5m.

Caicedo has been impressing for Graham Potter's side this season, establishing himself as a starter after Yves Bissouma's move to Tottenham Hotspur. If United meet the Seagulls' asking price, though, then they may find personal terms easier to navigate.

"My dream is to play for Manchester United because I like English football.," Caicedo said in December 2020, as reported at the time by OneFootball. "The pace is very high, and Manchester United are my favourite club.

"I always remain with my feet on the ground because I've got my family behind me, always supporting me, giving me advice," he continued. Caicedo's family are rumoured to also be United supporters.

Caicedo's comments came after a breakout season for Independente del Valle, in which he scored six goals including two in the Copa Libertadores. He also made his senior international debut in 2020, scoring his first goal for Ecuador that year in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.

The links with Caicedo come amid the apparent collapse of United's move for Adrien Rabiot. A fee in the region of £15m had been agreed for the Juventus midfielder, but a deal has reportedly fallen down on personal terms.

Football director John Murtough travelled to Turin in an effort to force through the deal, but Rabiot's wage demands have proved too much. The plug has now been pulled, with the midfielder search continuing.

Frenkie de Jong remains an option, but United will need to return with a new bid after withdrawing their initial offer for the Dutch international. The Barcelona man could well cost the club as much as £70m, though, while it remains unclear whether he would even entertain the move given his other options.

Casemiro has also emerged as an option, though Real Madrid are not thought to be in any mood to sell despite bolstering their midfield ranks this summer with the addition of Aurelien Tchouameni. Unlike the other targets, Caicedo has Premier League experience and has already spoken of his fondness for the club, and that could yet influence some decision-making at the top.
