sportsmole.co.uk, 2 March 2025, 13:40
Doncaster Rovers will look to strengthen their automatic promotion hopes when they travel to Dales Lane to face Bromley in League Two on Tuesday evening.

The hosts are 10th in the table with 48 points from 34 matches, while the visitors are third in the league standings with 61 points from their 34 games played.

Match preview

Bromley brilliantly secured their promotion to the English Football League for the first time since being established in 1892 as they won the National League playoffs last season, and they are enjoying a strong debut in League Two.

The Ravens are currently placed 10th in the fourth division with 48 points after 34 games played, from 12 wins, 12 draws and 10 defeats, leaving them confidently 24 points above relegation and only seven behind the playoff places.

Andy Woodman, in charge since March 2021, has seen his side have several poor periods during this term, though they have consistently bounced back with winning runs.

They started the campaign with just three wins from 16 league fixtures, followed by five wins and two draws in the next seven outings, before suffering four defeats and two draws in the subsequent six outings.

Bromley have returned to form once again in recent games, securing four wins and just one defeat in the last five matches, including a 1-0 victory over Wimbledon in their most recent match.

Now aiming to build on those victories with an eye on pushing towards the playoff places, Bromley will take on the formidable test of third-placed Doncaster Rovers.

After securing an 18th-placed finish in 2022-23, their first year back in League Two, the Rovers have been fighting for their promotion back to League One in the following season and a half.

They placed fifth in the league last season, suffering a penalty defeat to Crewe Alexandra in the semi-finals, and are now sitting third in the table after 34 games played this term.

Grant McCann, at the helm since May 2023, have recorded 18 wins, seven draws and nine defeats in the league, leaving them six points behind the league leaders Walsall and three above fourth-placed Notts County.

The visitors will be hoping to strengthen their position in the automatic promotion places by securing all three points on Tuesday, and the Rovers will draw confidence from being the best side in the league when on the road, picking up 30 points from 17 away matches.

Team News

The hosts bounced back from defeat by recording a 1-0 win against Wimbledon in their last outing, and Woodman may decide to name a similar starting 11 in this one, though Carl Jenkinson and Brooklyn Ilunga may miss out after coming off injured in that match.

Michael Cheek has been one of Bromley's star players this season, netting 16 goals in 33 league appearances, and the striker is expected to lead the line on Tuesday.

Doncaster have confidently triumphed in all of their last three matches coming into this one, meaning McCann may opt to name the same starting team here.

Robert Street has been in superb form for the Rovers in recent weeks, scoring five in his last six league games, and the striker is expected to start in attack here.

Bromley possible starting lineup:

Smith; Grant, Elerewe, Webster, Mayor; Congreve, Thompson, Arthurs, Whitely, Ifill; Cheek

Doncaster Rovers possible starting lineup:

Sharman-Lowe; Sterry, Olowu, McGrath, Maxwell; Bailey, Broadbent; Molyneux, Clifton, Gibson; Street

We say: Bromley 1-2 Doncaster Rovers
