American Scally, 18, has quickly found a place in this Gladbach team after being promoted to the senior squad following half a season settling in with the reserves. The full-back has played every minute so far in the league and DFB Cup, either on the left or right. A serious ankle injury to Stefan Lainer allied to Scally's impressive form looks set to ensure the youngster a prolonged run on the right of defence, now back alongside Matthias Ginter after the Germany international missed the 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin. That result left the Foals with just a point from their first three games, though that came in an impressive display as they held champions Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw on the opening night. Jonas Hofmann looks set to partner captain Lars Stindl behind lone striker Alassane Plea despite playing right-back for Germany recently, while Marcus Thuram is sidelined with a knee injury sustained in the disappointing 4-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 2.
Okugawa is certainly on a steadier ship right now at Bielefeld, who have drawn their opening three matches against Freiburg, Greuther Fürth and Eintracht Frankfurt - with the Japan international starting in each. Arminia haven't lost a league game since April's meeting with Gladbach, and coach Frank Kramer has turned them into a tough side to beat. He has only lost a fifth of his 15 matches in charge, which is the best proportion of any Bielefeld coach in the top flight. One reason for that success is goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who has developed into one of the Bundesliga's most reliable shot-stoppers over the last year. A recent neck problem for Jacob Laursen has seen Lennart Czyborra deputise at left-back, but the Dane looks fit to play. Bryan Lasme is pushing to return to the starting XI in place of Florian Krüger, while Alessandro Schöpf is available again following suspension.
Match stats
Hofmann and Plea have scored a goal apiece in 2020/21 - Gladbach's only goals of the league campaign so far, both from counter-attacks.
Plea was on target in last season's corresponding fixture: a 5-0 Gladbach win, Arminia's heaviest defeat for 11 years.
It's 18 years since a new Gladbach coach went more than three Bundesliga matches to start a tenure without a win. Holger Fach broke his duck at the seventh attempt, back in 2003/04.
Ortega boasts the third best shots-to-saves ratio in this season's Bundesliga (84.6 percent).
Arminia are the only team to start the new season with three successive draws.
Kramer's Bielefeld are unbeaten in six Bundesliga matches since losing to Gladbach on 25 April.
