Bayern CEO gives two-word response to question on Tuchel future after defeat

talksport.com, 18 February 2024, 20:40
Bayern Munich's CEO has suggested Thomas Tuchel's job is safe for now despite another damaging defeat for them.

The German giants fell to their third straight defeat in the Bundesliga as they lost 3-2 to Bochum on Sunday.

After yet another loss this season, Bayern are now eight points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the table.

And things are looking bleak for Harry Kane who is watching hopes of his first piece of silverware quickly fade away with Bayern out of the DFB-Pokal and trailing in their Champions League last 16 tie against Lazio.

With 12 games to go until the end of the campaign, things need to change, and fast.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has come under fire for recent results and will most definitely be feeling the pressure.

However, despite an unprecedented third loss in a row, club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has defended the German.

Addressing the defeat, Dreesen said: "I'm really feeling shi**y. Today, mentality beat quality, we are not happy at all."

And then when asked if Tuchel would be in charge next week, he answered with a simple two-word response, saying: "Of course."

So it seems the former Chelsea boss won't be leaving Bayern in the immediate future.

Raphael Honigstein reveals Thomas Tuchel and Harry Kane are under pressure at Bayern Munich following their Bundesliga loss to Bayer Leverkusen

Following the damaging loss, Tuchel defended his team, believing that they didn't deserve defeat against Bochum.

He told DAZN: "The defeat was not fair today, a lot went against us.

"We had an xG value of 3.4 and we had four, five, six top-class chances.

"If we play this game five more time, we'd win it five times. I don't blame the players today."

Commenting on the growing pressure, he continued: "If you ask me, I firmly still believe me and the coaching staff can turn things around.

"Growing pressure? That happens after every defeat. But today we never stopped, never stopped trying."

It would take a huge turnaround to come back and win the Bundesliga title now, with Leverkusen looking unstoppable.

If their struggles do carry on, Tuchel may not be given much more time in the hot seat.
