A lack of HGV drivers has seen panic buying across the country, with stagnant queues covering roads as fuel stations run dry.
The worst hit have been key workers and also those needing to travel, and that includes a pair of Championship players.
talkSPORT pundit and QPR striker Charlie Austin phoned Breakfast this week, having become one of the many victims of the fuel shortage.
"I've got the same old scenario as everyone else - looking for fuel," Austin began.
"I've just driven down the high street at my place and there's about 50 cars queuing to get in, no way am I waiting in that.
"I'll have to get the train!"
He did eventually manage to link up with his teammates to play 72 minutes in a 2-0 home win over Birmingham.
He wasn't the only second tier star to get caught short either, with Millwall striker Matt Smith, who joked he may need a kind member of the public to help him get to training.
"Anyone in West London (Chelsea/Fulham) area know where's a good bet to get fuel at the moment?" he wrote.
"Struggling to find anywhere! If not, can anyone give me a lift to training in the morning."
Smith luckily has a bit more time on his side with Millwall playing on Wednesday night, but talkSPORT host Jamie O'Hara had a recommendation for how the striker should get to training.
"I'm sure [Fulham captain] Tom Cairney will go out his way for you bro," he joked.
