Latest
Augsburg were themselves looking up on the back of three straight wins between Matchdays 6 and 8, including a famous victory at home to Bayern Munich. However, Die Fuggerstädter have picked up just two points in four league outings since their 3-2 win at Schalke, including throwing away a 3-0 lead to be held by RB Leipzig. The positive aspect of that run for coach Enrico Maaßen is that those two draws have come in both home games. However, last weekend's late 2-1 loss at VfB Stuttgart leaves Augsburg in 13th and only five points above the drop zone. That match also saw Carlos Gruezo and Elvis Rexhbecaj both pick up their fifth yellows of the season, so Maaßen has to change things up in central midfield. The in-form Mergim Berisha and Ermedin Demirovic will continue in attack, though, while a decision on the return of first-choice goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz will be made at the last possible minute after he missed the last five fixtures with a dead leg.
Whether it's Gikiewicz or Tomas Koubek in net, Frankfurt will be confident coming to the WWK Arena after they came from behind to win 2-1 at Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday and book their place in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage for the first time ever. Götze's summer arrival looks to have taken Die Adler to another level, and they are currently only two points outside the top four after being leapfrogged by Borussia Dortmund with a narrow loss last weekend. Randal Kolo Muani and Daichi Kamada have been in excellent goalscoring form, netting the team's last five between them. The former also leads the Bundesliga assist chart with seven provisions to go with his three league strikes. However, the Japan international will be forced to sit this one out due to illness. Captain Sebastian Rode should start after his half-time introduction in Lisbon was credited with sparking the fightback.
Match stats
Augsburg have only lost one of the four league games in which five-goal top scorer Demirovic has been on target (W2, D1).
However, Augsburg are currently on their longest winless run of the Maaßen era (five competitive matches).
Augsburg have put in a league-high 2,465 challenges this season - marginally more than Frankfurt's 2,440.
Kamada already has seven goals for the season. He scored five in each of his previous two full Bundesliga campaigns.
Frankfurt have won three of their last four away Bundesliga matches. They've picked up 10 points on the road all told - as many as on home soil.
The Eagles are unbeaten on their last five trips to Augsburg, winning three and keeping clean sheets in four.
