Arsenal transfer news: William Saliba 'dreaming' of Real Madrid move as Gunners set asking price

Since being integrated into Mikel Arteta's squad on the back of several loans back in France, Saliba has developed into one of the best centre-backs in world football.

A total of seven goals have come from his 116 appearances in a Gunners shirt, the France international forming a resolute partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes.

There is an argument that the pair are the best central-defensive combination in world football at this present time, yet Arsenal face a fight to retain Saliba's services in the long term.

With a contract until 2027, the 23-year-old is naturally being targeted by several high-profile teams across Europe who know that Arsenal are entering vulnerable territory.

What is Arsenal's asking price for Saliba?

According to Sky Sport Switzerland, Saliba is eager to secure a move to Real as early as the next trading period.

Furthermore, it is suggested that Arsenal officials have determined that they would request £100m if any club came calling for the former Saint-Etienne youngster.

As it stands, it is suggested that Real are still prepared to consider putting forward a proposal for the player, aware of their need to strengthen the middle of their backline.

Up until the necessary progression of Raul Asencio due to injuries, Real's youngest senior centre-back was Eder Militao at the age of 27.

Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba will turn 32 and 33 years of age respectively later this year, highlighting why Saliba is of the ideal profile to move to Los Blancos.

Saliba is also said to be close friends with Real attacker Kylian Mbappe, the odds seemingly stacking against Arsenal keeping Saliba in the long term.

How may Arteta respond?

Arteta will naturally be against allowing Saliba to depart the Emirates Stadium, yet Arsenal only have three transfer windows to generate their desired fee should the player not extend his contract.

Finding someone to replace Saliba is a near-impossible task, yet recouping a fee in the region of £100m would allow a cheaper alternative to be found and money put towards signing a new number nine.

For the time being, Real are said to be in contact with his representatives to gauge whether a summer move is plausible.
