UEFA is set to close a loophole on Wednesday allowing clubs to spread the cost of big transfer fees over lengthy contracts.
Chelsea have caught the eye over the last two transfer windows by signing players on long deals, including £107million January recruit Enzo Fernandez on an eight-and-a-half-year contract.
The Blues have done so in order to spread the cost of the transfer fee over a greater period of time and comply with UEFA's financial regulations, something which is currently permitted.
However, it is understood UEFA's executive committee will update the regulations when it meets on Wednesday. It is expected there will be no limit on the length of a contract, but the cost of any transfer fee will have to be spread over a maximum of five years.

Reports in Germany claim Harry Kane has AGREED to join Bayern Munich.
Bild are reporting Kane's father Pat and brother Charlie held negotiations with the Bundesliga champions.
After those talks, Bayern tabled their first offer of around £60million, which was rejected by Spurs who are demanding around £85m [€100m] to part with their star man who has one year left on his contract.
Bild claim the German giants are hoping to stay below that price but 'the ball is now back with Bayern to make the next offer'.
And, according to former Spurs striker Darren Bent, Daniel Levy would be silly to turn down the chance to get decent money for Kane without having to sell him to a direct Premier League rival.
"I think Harry will still be a Tottenham player this season - I see him struggling to get out of Spurs," said the Drivetime host on talkSPORT.
"But if you're Daniel Levy and this opportunity arises, it's the perfect situation for you.
"If somehow Bayern can get the money up to around £85m or £90m, he's only got a year left on his deal, so you'd take the money, you get him out of the way and you don't have to sell him to one of your rivals - job done.
"He's out in the Bundesliga, out of sight out of mind, and we can crack on.
"Seeing the greatest player in your club's history wearing a rival club's shirt - Manchester United or Chelsea - and he's gone there for nothing, that's going to hurt even more.
"And that is what's going to happen next summer unless Levy can convince him to sign a new contract.
"If I'm Daniel Levy I'm not immediately saying, 'Nope, I'm not talking to Bayern Munich' - that's crazy!
"You don't want to see Harry playing in the Premier League for one of your rivals, if Bayern Munich can somehow get to £90m and he's got a year left on his deal, take the money and send him to the Bundesliga, because then that doesn't affect you one bit!"
