Arsenal's radical line-up next season including Kimmich in dream summer window

talksport.com, 4 March 2025, 08:56
Arsenal look set to leave no stone unturned this summer in their quest to win a first Premier League title since 2004.

The Gunners are poised to splash the cash having resisted the temptation to go big in the winter transfer window.

It was a decision that could leave the north London outfit without any silverware this season after they failed to address their attacking woes.

Despite Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus being out injured, Arsenal refused to sanction a high-profile signing - or even a short-term option to provide cover.

Almost immediately after the window ended, Gabriel Martinelli suffered a hamstring injury, with Kai Havertz then requiring surgery for his own issue.

It leaves Arsenal without a recognised striker for the remainder of the season with Jesus to potentially be out for the rest of 2025 due an ACL setback.

Mikel Arteta has turned to central midfielder Mikel Merino to fill the void, but in his two starts leading the line, Arsenal have failed to beat West Ham and Nottingham Forest - extending Liverpool's lead at the top to 13 points.

While Arsenal remain in the Champions League, they are in the same side of the draw as Real Madrid and Liverpool, and with an overplayed squad running on empty, success in Europe is not to be expected.

Understandably, Gooners have been left furious over their lack of transfer activity - which stems from last summer, having overlooked a striker to provide competition for Havertz.

But it is expected that club owner Stan Kroenke will open the purse strings this summer in what has the potential to be a dream window for Arteta.

A huge transfer kitty looks set to be available for the Spaniard, who needs to replace soon-to-be free agents such as Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Kieran Tierney.

With Joshua Kimmich, Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Martin Zubimendi all heavily linked, here is how Arsenal could line-up next campaign if Arteta gets his way.

David Raya will keep his place between the sticks having established himself as one of Europe's top goalkeepers.

Slotting in at left-back could be Myles Lewis-Skelly following an impressive breakout season so far.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye with a number of dazzling displays and has often been preferred ahead of £38million arrival Riccardo Calafiori.

A centre-back partnership would continue to consist of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, with the duo once again being instrumental in Arsenal conceding the fewest in the top-flight so far.

And featuring at right-back could be versatile Germany international Kimmich, who has held talks with Arsenal over a free transfer with his Bayern Munich contract expiring.

A natural central midfielder, the 30-year-old is perfectly capable of playing as an inverted full-back - having done so for Bayern on 128 occasions.

Replacing Partey in the lone No. 6 role could be Real Sociedad's Euro 2024-winning star Zubimendi.

A long-term target of Arteta, the 26-year-old has previously shunned interest over a move to England - notably snubbing a switch to Liverpool last year.

But talkSPORT understands that Arsenal look set to finally snare the player away from San Sebastian in a £51m deal.

While Arsenal have lacked goalscoring midfielders this season, Arteta is likely to persist with skipper Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice being deployed as his No. 8s.

That is despite the duo mustering up a combined three Premier League goals this term.

Moving into the front line, and Saka would be the club's starting right winger with Arsenal missing his creativity in the final third in his absence.

Nuno Espirito Santo's brutal Arsenal analysis leaves Martin Keown in stunned silence

Ethan Nwaneri has earned rave reviews when called upon, but with the youngster still just 17, Arteta will be cautious in giving the teenager too much responsibility.

On the opposite flank could be Wolves' Matheus Cunha should Arsenal reignite their interest in the Brazilian.

Arsenal were believed to be keeping tabs on the 25-year-old in January, but Cunha instead committed his future to Wolves by penning a new deal.

Though it is believed that he requested a release clause worth around £60m in his deal, and with Wolves in a relegation battle, the versatile forward could be tempted by a new challenge.

While Newcastle marksman Alexander Isak is the reported number one striker target, Arsenal could be priced out of a move for the £150m-rated Swede.

This could see Arsenal turning their attention towards RB Leipzig starlet Sesko.

The 21-year-old was on Arsenal's radar last summer, but the player instead chose to have another season in Germany to continue his development.

An enquiry was made to Leipzig in January over the Slovenian's availability, but Arsenal decided against formalising their interest to maintain positive relations between the two clubs.

And talkSPORT understands that Arsenal would be the player's preference should he make the move to the Premier League amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Valued at between £60m-£70m, signing Sesko would allow Arsenal to focus on other areas as they look to finally build a squad capable of ending their 21-year wait for the league championship.
