That is according to ex-Newcastle boss and talkSPORT host Alan Pardew, who watched the Gunners' 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace alongside Southgate.
Nketiah, who missed two first half chances, won Arsenal the penalty which Martin Odegaard converted in Monday night's hard-fought victory.
The 24-year-old has started the opening two Premier League games in Gabriel Jesus' absence, something he did regularly last season when the Brazilian was injured.
Having never been a regular starter under Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and now Mikel Arteta, Nketiah has impressed whenever he has been relied upon.
He is even England's Under-21 all-time record scorer with 16 goals from his 17 appearances, but his international future is in question.

Ghana boss Chris Hughton revealed to talkSPORT earlier this month he has spoken to the player about playing for the African nation, who Nketiah qualifies for through his parents.
But Pardew, who hosts his own talkSPORT show every Sunday from 6pm to 9:30pm, has hinted that Southgate could give him a chance for the Three Lions in the near future.
Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast show, Ray Parlour asked Pardew whether he has any inside information on what surprise names could be in the next England squad.
To which Pardew said: "Obviously he's a good friend of mine Gareth, I will not be telling too many secrets!

"One of the conversations that we did have which was interesting was about Eddie Nketiah, who I thought played very, very well.
"He was so unlucky with the dink, he got too much on it, I know Alan Brazil would have just dinked that in, that would have been no problem!
"But I actually thought, he reminded me of Ian Wright, I said to him [Southgate], 'what do you think Gareth, you've had him in the juniors?'
"He said, 'yeah we really like him, he's quick, lively...'
"So I really hope it is a breakthrough season for that kid, he looks the part, he's a bit like [Bukayo] Saka, he's a nice person and good luck to him!"
Nketiah, who scored in Arsenal's Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, is expected to keep his place in Arteta's line-up on Saturday.
