The Three Lions will name a provisional group, which can hold up to 55 players, for visa reasons, on Thursday, October 20, which means a number of players could get put on a month-long standby.

Eventually, by November 13, the full 26-man squad will be announced and after few surprises from Southgate in recent matches it's unlikely a shock newcomer will emerge.
However, injuries to Reece James, Kyle Walker, and John Stones, have opened the door for some fringe stars like Arsenal's Ben White to be considered seriously.

And discussing which Premier League stars might well be a contender should a squad place open up, Bent was able to provide a lenghty list of talents who he feels can come to their nation's aid.
He told Drive Time: "I've written a whole list of people who are on that fringe. Anyone who is on my list, they are not definites. These are all people I think are on the cusp.
"Tyrone Mings is on my list. He's one the cusp. [Fiakyo Tomori] he's another on there.
"I've gone for Ben White, who I think has to be in the squad but wasn't called up to the last squad. Ryan Sessegnon, he's on the cusp and he's been in the system before.

"Ruben Loftus-Cheek, not played for England since 2018 but playing really well. I've got Conor Gallagher, he's on my list. Dan Burn, played well.
"Harvey Elliott, I don't think he will go but people have spoken about him.
"Rico Henry at Brentford, left back, playing really well. Ivan Toney, I put him on this list. I think we will definitely go.

"Jarrod Bowen [his goal last week was] fantastic but it's not set in stone.
"Tyrick Mitchell, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, James Tarkowski - centre-half is an issue at the minute - John Stones has had his injuries, Harry Maguire is not playing. Joe Gomez [is on the list].
"I've got James Maddison, Tammy Abraham - I hope he is, I think he should be, Jadon Sancho, [Marcus Rashford] I think he's on the cusp, I don't know if he's in yet.

"Another one I've put but I don't think will make it - Ollie Watkins.
"[Conor Coady] is a definite, 100 per cent in the squad. I've heard Gareth Southgate talk about what he's like around the building, around the other players, on the training field and always wants to work hard, wants to do extra.
"He's 100 per cent nailed on in the squad."

Bent later added: "Someone we didn't mention who I genuinely think, if he could stay fit, he would be in the squad. Callum Wilson. Has to be. He has been brilliant for Newcastle when he's been fit.
"Do you know what I like? He scores against all the big heads. He's doesn't just score against them little, little teams either."
