Alisson Becker issues injury update as Liverpool goalkeeper shares Instagram photo after Brazil withdrawal

Alisson started the Selecao's 2-1 win over Colombia in 2026 World Cup Qualifying in midweek, but the former Roma shot-stopper was involved in a distressing clash of heads with Davinson Sanchez in the second half.

Alisson came off to be replaced by Bento, although Brazil's team doctor immediately downplayed the severity of his injury, stating that the 32-year-old did not seem to have sustained any lasting damage.

Nevertheless, Alisson withdrew from the Brazil squad on Friday to return to Liverpool, where he would undergo further assessment with the Reds' medical team ahead of the resumption of domestic football.

The South American has since provided his own update on his condition, though, taking to Instagram on Friday evening to affirm that he was OK and simply had to follow the necessary protocols.

Alisson provides reassuring update on head injury

"Hey guys, just to let you know I'm fine. Just have to follow the protocols! Thanks for the messages," Alisson wrote as he posted a selfie of him with a smile on his story.

The 32-year-old will now need to observe a 10-day period as per concussion protocol, but as Liverpool are not back in action until Wednesday, April 2, - a home Merseyside derby against Everton - he should not miss any games for Arne Slot's side.

Alisson has been plagued by an increasing number of fitness concerns in recent years, but the Brazilian remains Liverpool's undisputed number one and has kept 12 clean sheets in 28 games in all competitions this season.

However, the shot-stopper has missed an additional 14 matches due to a pair of hamstring problems, allowing Caoimhin Kelleher to enjoy another run in the starting XI before his superior's return.

Alisson will also face increased competition from Giorgi Mamardashvili next season, but he is expected to continue as Slot's number one and has no plans to leave before his contract expires in 2027.

What about Liverpool's other injury victims?

Alisson was just one of three players whom Liverpool suffered scares over during the international break, as Ryan Gravenberch had to leave the Netherlands' camp with a knock he picked up in the EFL Cup final loss to Newcastle United.

However, it has been reported that the midfielder's withdrawal was just precautionary, and he is expected to be fit for Liverpool's first game back following the international break.

Meanwhile, France's social media team said that Ibrahima Konate was taken off against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League due to injury, but Didier Deschamps denied that claim and stressed that his substitution was tactical.

Slot could still be missing four players for the visit of Everton in two Wednesdays' time, though, as Trent Alexander-Arnold (ankle), Tyler Morton (shoulder), Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley (both hamstring) are currently sidelined.

Bradley is pushing to return at some point next month, though, while Slot is confident that his superior Alexander-Arnold will also come back before the season is over.
