Adnan Januzaj details difference between Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho

Adnan Januzaj has opened up on his time at Manchester United, playing under the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

Januzaj joined United's youth system in 2011 - where he progressed through the ranks - before making his senior debut in 2013.

The Belgium international left Old Trafford in 2017, after spells under four different managers, including Ferguson, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

When asked recently about the different managers he worked with during his time with the Red Devils, Januzaj said Scottish duo Ferguson and Moyes gave him and fellow youngsters a chance, whereas that wasn't the case under the reins of van Gaal and Mourinho.

"Besides being a good manager, he's [Moyes] a good person," said Januzaj to The Athletic. "You can talk to Moyes about anything. I can call him whenever I want and he'll answer the phone. Young players got a chance under Sir Alex Ferguson and Moyes.

"But under Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal (the next two United managers) it was more about big players playing. As a young player, you couldn't say anything. You just had to work and hopefully get a chance."

Ferguson called time on his United 27-year spell at United in 2013, after taking up the managerial post in 1986.

The United legends successor, Moyes, was the manager who handed Januzaj his debut in the 2-0 Community Shield win over Wigan Athletic in 2013.

But despite getting off to a good start, Moyes lasted less than a year in charge and was sacked by the club in April 2014 after a poor run of results which left United lurking in seventh and guaranteed to finish outside of the top three for their first time in Premier League history.

However, Januzaj still believes Moyes wasn't given enough time to succeed at Old Trafford.

"Moyes didn't get enough time at Manchester United," he said. "When I found out he was sacked, I went to his office and thanked him for everything. He helped me a lot when I was there, so too did Sir Alex. They are the two managers I'll always have respect for."

After losing his place in the first-team in under van Gaal in 2015, Januzaj was loaned to German giants Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan deal which saw him make 12 appearances.

Januzaj was then loaned out in the following season, but this time to the North-East with Sunderland where he would re-unite with former boss Moyes.

But Januzaj was deemed surplus to requirements by Mourinho in 2017, and was subsequently sold to LaLiga side Real Sociedad, bringing an to his six-year spell in England.

The winger has since gone on to make 138 appearances for Sociedad and score 19 times.

Januzaj's Sociedad are currently top of LaLiga with 25 points from 12 games, one more than Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid, who have played a game less.
