Hayet Abidal, the wife of former Barcelona and France international defender Eric Abidal, has confirmed she is seeking a divorce from her husband.
Hayet released a statement on Friday afternoon to confirm the move after alleging that the former player had admitted an extra-marital relationship with PSG professional footballer Kheira Hamraoui.
As confirmed in a press release to AFP, Hayet claimed that her husband had admitted "to an adulterous relationship with Ms Hamraoui" with the full details covered by French media outlet RMC Sport.
Eric Abidal's lawyer, Olivier Martin, has confirmed that his client will not be making any statement at this time.
Hayet has instructed her lawyer Nicolas Cellupica to commence divorce proceedings against her husband in Barcelona.
Hamraoui, a France international midfielder with whom Eric Abidal has allegedly admitted his affair, was assaulted by two masked men on November 4 this year.
Hamraoui's phone was registered in the name of the former France international defender, making Abidal a person of interest in the investigation into the attack, which is currently being led by the Versailles court.
Both Eric Abidal and Hayet Abidal will be questioned as part of that judicial investigation, the report adds.
Hayet Abidal's legal representative added that his client "has nothing to do with the events", and that she would not comment on the case.
The lawyer's statement added that Hayet Abidal wished to be interviewed "as quickly as possible by investigators or the prosecutor in charge of the case".
Hamraoui recently detailed the attack on November 4 in an interview with L'Equipe, in which she said: "My attacker hit me with an iron bar several times.
"I saw that he was mainly targeting my legs and I was trying to protect myself with my hands. At that time, I didn't see a weapon.
"They immediately start yelling: 'Open the door! Open the door!' The one on my side grabbed me and pulled me out of the vehicle.
"Before, he grabbed a rectangular iron bar that he had hidden in his pants or under his sweater."
Hamraoui, 31, was a Barcelona player when Eric Abidal was the club's sporting director - the two arrived at the Blaugrana in the summer of 2018 in their respective roles.
Eric Abidal enjoyed a successful playing career which totalled 513 appearances between 2001 and 2015 with Monaco, Lille, Lyon, Barcelona and the French national side.
He won a total of 20 trophies across his career with his six-season stint at the Camp Nou the most memorable - winning four La Liga titles with the Catalan giants alongside the Champions League trophies in 2009 and 2011.
French international Hamraoui returned to PSG this year from Barcelona, having previously left Paris after a four-year spell.
Capped 36 times by the French national side, she has won three Champions League titles in her career - twice with Lyon and last year with Barca.
Hamraoui played an important role in last season's record-breaking Barcelona side - who won every trophy available and broke multiple goal scoring records - as she made 35 appearances across all competitions.
