5 players Ralf Rangnick could target at Man Utd with £100m transfer windfall

Ralf Rangnick won't be in the Manchester United dugout until this weekend's visit of Crystal Palace due to visa issues, but that doesn't mean he isn't getting to work behind the scenes

Ralf Rangnick will have £100millon to splurge in January as he looks to put his immediate stamp on this Manchester United side.

The 63-year-old has been appointed interim Old Trafford boss until the end of the season, before he will take on a consultancy role at the club in the summer.

Rangnick won't be in the dugout until this weekend's visit of Crystal Palace due to visa issues, but that doesn't mean he isn't getting to work behind the scenes.

The new boss has a month to decide how he'll use the £100m kitty that he will have at his disposal.

Here are five players he could target in the upcoming window.

Where will Manchester United finish this season under Ralf Rangnick? Comment below

Amadou Haidara

The midfielder is one of two players Rangnick is looking at from his former club RB Leipzig.

Haidara has been a standout for the Bundesliga side in the middle of the park, an area United failed to strengthen in the summer.

Eduardo Camavinga and Declan Rice fell out of their grasp, a decision that has backfired as the Red Devils' midfield has not been up to scratch so far this season.

Rangnick looks to have that area as a priority, however, and Haidara is his number one target.

Christopher Nkunku

The winger failed to make his mark at Paris Saint-Germain after coming through the ranks at the Parc Des Princes.

But Nkunku has found a new lease of life with Leipzig and is arguably one of the best attacking players in Germany's top flight.

The forward has attracted attention from several clubs after regularly impressing in the Champions League.

United is one of those teams and they'll hope Rangnick's previous ties could be a deal-breaker if they pursue a move.

Erling Haaland

The Borussia Dortmund striker is expected to leave Signal Iduna Park in the summer and he should be spoilt for choice.

Real Madrid, Manchester City, PSG and a host of other big-hitters will come calling for the Norwegian, especially if reports of a £63million release clause are accurate.

United have been a long-time admirer of Haaland, but they hope Rangnick's arrival will push them ahead of the pack.

Rangnick has a close relationship with Haaland's father, former Leeds and Manchester City midfielder Alf-Inge.

He was also sporting director at RB Salzburg where Haaland originally burst onto the scene before he was sold to Dortmund for £18m at the start of 2020.

Timo Werner

Reports in Germany claim that Rangnick wants to reunite with the Chelsea striker who has struggled since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Werner made his name at Leipzig under the new United boss and his prolific form was why the Blues shelled out almost £50m for him.

But the forward has failed to replicate those levels at Chelsea and Romelu Lukaku's arrival has only placed his future in more doubt.

And Rangnick is seemingly willing to give Werner a way out as he looks to link up with his former player at Old Trafford.

Konrad Laimer

Man United's midfield will be a pressing concern for Rangnick so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him make more than one addition in that area in January.

Konrad Laimer is another player that was a huge success under the new United boss at Leipzig.

The 24-year-old's rise has continued since Rangnick's departure and he has attracted attention from the likes of Bayern Munich in recent months.

But the Red Devils could provide stiff competition if Rangnick is keen on reuniting with the playmaker.
