Union Deportiva Melilla is a football team based in the autonomous city of Melilla. Founded in 1943 and refounded in 1976 it currently plays in Segunda Division RFEF – Group 5, holding home matches at Estadio Municipal Alvarez Claro, with a 10,000-seat capacity.
History
At the beginning of the 1930s, Melilla city had four local football teams: Melilla C.F., Sociedad Deportiva Melillense, Deportivo Espanol and La Hipica.Union Deportiva Melilla was founded on February 6, 1943. The first official game was against C.D. African on March 21, 1943. UD Melilla won it 5:1. However then the club disappeared for 13 years. It was refounded in 1976, reached Segunda Division B in 1987, and has remained there ever since.
