U Craiova 1948, commonly known as FC U Craiova 1948 or FC U Craiova, is a Romanian professional football team based in Craiova, Dolj County, currently playing in Liga I.
It is—along with CS Universitatea Craiova—one of the two entities asserting the history of the original Universitatea Craiova football team, which was founded in 1948 as a section of the CSU Craiova sports club. During 1991, after the sports club dissolved its football department, FC Universitatea Craiova took its place in the Romanian first division. Generally considered the same entity with the old club, it continued its tradition for the next two decades, but was reorganised several times and retroactively deemed an unofficial successor. Most notably, under the ownership of Adrian Mititelu, FC Universitatea was disaffiliated by the Romanian Football Federation in 2012, following their temporary banishment since July 2011, and consequently retired from every competition.
The Romanian Court confirmed that the disaffiliation was legal and in September 2014 the team was officially declared bankrupt. Mititelu reestablished the club in 2017 as FC U Craiova 1948 and enrolled it in the fourth league; FC U then returned to the Liga I for the 2021–22 season. To the same degree with CS U, FC U claims all the trophies won by original Universitatea between 1948 and 1991, four and five national titles and national cups, respectively, but according to court orders its only major honour would be the 1992–93 Cupa Romaniei.
