The 24-year-old has transformed into one of the best players in world football since joining Los Blancos in 2018, and he has already won 14 trophies with the club, including three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues.
Vinicius has scored 101 goals and provided 85 assists in 296 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, including 16 goals and 12 assists in 31 matches so far this season.
Speculation over the future of the 2024 Ballon d'Or runner-up has been rife in recent weeks, though, amid reported interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Saudi Pro League officials are alleged to have stepped up their 'very serious' pursuit of the Brazil international and the nation's Public Investment Fund (PIF) are prepared to offer him a five-year deal worth a staggering €1bn (£830m).
However, Vinicius has publicly revealed that he is keen to stay at Real Madrid "for a long time" and the attacker has confirmed that contract talks have been opened.
Vinicius Junior in talks with Real Madrid over new contract
Speaking to TNT's Brazilian journalist Tatiana Mantovani after Real Madrid's 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Champions League last week, Vinicius said: "It's very exciting to be able to open talks with Madrid about my renewal.
"I have a contract until 2027, but I have always said that I want to play here for a long time, to be able to make history and to receive the affection of the fans along with the president, all the players and the coaching staff.
"And God willing, hopefully in the next few days all the negotiations can be resolved and I can stay here for much longer."
According to Spanish news outlet AS, Vinicius's previous renewal at Real Madrid, which was signed in 2022, was not announced until more than a year later on October 31, 2023, but this is seemingly unlikely to be repeated this time around.
It is claimed that Real Madrid have called the player's agents to find out Vinicius's contract demands and he has already given a response, with the Brazilian now waiting for Los Blancos to reply.
The report adds Real Madrid had not planned to tie Vinicius down to a new deal until the summer when he would enter the final two years of his contract, but the player's renewal is now 'in full swing' as the Spanish giants bid to fend off persistent interest from the Saudi Pro League.
