Victor Orta's plans for a crazy Leeds: Marc Roca, Aaronson, Kristensen...

marca.com, 7 July 2022, 11:48
They're sixth in the table of highest spenders in Europe this summer

Marcelo Bielsa is already history at Leeds United, but Victor Orta is already working hard this summer to create a new side at Elland Road that would live up to the former coach's reputation of being a little bit out of the ordinary.

Leeds survived late on last season, and they don't want to find themselves scrapping at the bottom of the Premier League again this term, so they're acting early in the transfer market.

Having anticipated Kalvin Phillips' Manchester City move, and Raphinha's probable exit as well, they've got down to business already. Now, in early July, they are sixth in the table of Europe's big spenders this summer with 80.64 million euros having been splashed, behind only City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool.

Jesse Marsch

The planning for 2022/23 began in February, when Jesse March was appointed, and Orta confessed to Radio MARCA that the club were impressed by his ideologies of football.

So, this summer, they've bought players to fit into his plans in Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson, and Rasmus Kristensen. There seems to be a real tie with Leeds and the Red Bull clubs.

Aaronson, Leeds' most expensive signing

Leeds spent 32.84m to sign Aaronson from RB Salzburg, overtaking Rodrigo Moreno as their most expensive signing.

The American is under contract now until 2027, and he's expected to become a real pillar of the squad at Elland Road.

Marc Roca, the heir to Phillips

The Yorkshire Pirlo is gone, and Marc Roca has come in to fill the void left. He's an impressive youngster and one to watch out for next season and through the entirety of his time at the club.

One of Europe's most promising full-backs

Kristensen comes in as a really exciting signing, having been seen as one of the best and promising full-backs in Europe in recent seasons.

Orta praised his understanding of his role, his physically, and his technical ability on the ball as well.

Adams, Atletico's executioner

Adams scored the goal that sent Atletico Madrid packing from the Champions League in 2019/20, and Marsch has worked with him before.

They know one another, and the American coach is the man to get the very best out of Adams.

Replacing Phillips and Raphinha

In addition to almost 50m euros, Leeds received Darko Gyabi in exchange for Phillips from Manchester City. He has signed until 2026, and might now find the space he needs to push on with his career.

After Raphinha, Leeds could well look to Colombian Luis Fernando Sinisterra, who has shone with Feyenoord in his time there, often playing on the left.

It's thought that he could cost around 25m euros.
