Tucumanvs.Independiente Rivadavia

sportsmole.co.uk, 2 August 2024, 22:57
Round nine of the 2024 Argentine Primera Division campaign pits Atletico Tucuman against Independiente Rivadavia at Estadio Monumental Jose Fierro on Monday.

Both teams head into this encounter off the back of victories in their last outings and will be looking to pick up where they left off.

Match preview

Independiente Rivadavia just about did enough to scrape a narrow 1-0 victory over Independiente in Saturday's clash at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.

Off the back of three consecutive 1-0 defeats between late May and mid-June, Martin Cicotello's men are yet to concede in the subsequent three outings en route to seven points from a possible nine.

Despite sitting seventh in the league standings, El Azul are just four points shy of leaders Huracan in a tightly-congested top half of the table.

However, Independiente Rivadavia must get themselves going at the top end of the pitch if they are to keep up their decent league campaign as their tally of five goals scored is the currently the third-worst in the division.

Atletico Tucuman took another step in the right direction with a routine 2-0 victory over Barracas Central at Estadio Tomas Adolfo Duco on Monday.

Goals from Luis Rodriguez and Gino Peruzzi saw Diego Erroz's men record back to back wins for the first time since January to make it six straight league games without a defeat.

In that time, El Gigante del Norte have amassed 10 points from a possible 18 to move up to 10th place in the Argentine Primera Division table.

A solid defence has laid the platform for Tucuman's upturn in form with two clean sheets on the spin, while only three of the other 27 sides have let in fewer goals this term.

They will now set out to continue their recent resurgence, and standing in the way is an opposing outfit yet to win any of the last six meetings between the teams dating back to 2014.

Team News

Lucas Ambrogio is still without an appearance for Atletico Tucuman this season as he continues to nurse a knee injury.

Forward Luis Rodriguez has now opened his account in his second spell with the home side and will be full of confidence heading into Monday's clash.

Long-term absentee Federico Castro is still a long way off returning to the fold for Independiente Rivadavia having not featured since April.

Twenty-eight-year-old Luciano Gomez is also ruled out here as he is set to miss a second straight game with a muscle problem.

Francisco Petrasso still awaits his return to action for the away side after serving a suspension for his red card against Huracan.

Atletico Tucuman possible starting lineup:

Durso; Infante, Romero, De los Santos, Brandan; Pereyra, Acosta, Sanchez, Tesuri; Bajamich, Rodriguez

Independiente Rivadavia possible starting lineup:

Centurion; Abecasis, Villalba, Bianchi, Palacios, Ostchega; Ham, Romero, Rios; Cano, Gonzalez

We say: Atletico Tucuman 1-1 Independiente Rivadavia

The teams are on a positive run of results leading up to this one, but their attacking performances have left a lot to be desired.
