Tottenham branded 'thick' over key weakness but Neal Maupay sent 'Row Z' warning

talksport.com, 1 February 2024, 10:53
talkSPORT's Alan Brazil has criticised Tottenham over their game management late on in the narrow win against Brentford.

Spurs beat the Bees 3-2 in north London after coming from behind but it was far from a perfect victory for Ange Postecoglou's side.

After Richarlison scored their third, Tottenham gifted Ivan Toney a goal in the 67th minute to set-up a close end to the match.

Brentford had a glorious chance to equalise late on but Shandon Baptiste fired over the bar from inside the area.

There were a lot of nerves from Spurs fans in the closing stages of the match as their side stuck to their impressive style of play.

However, Brazil was unimpressed with how they held onto the win, calling for less of the flicks and tricks and more of the defensive play.

Maupay trolls Tottenham fans with darts celebration and Maddison did not like it one bit

Bournemouth not expecting offer for star man amid reported Tottenham interest

"I tell you what, I'm trying to get my head around Spurs," he said on talkSPORT Breakfast. "I watched the whole game last night.

"Tottenham fans were biting their nails like mad in the last couple of minutes. You've got to learn, it's fine being wide open and taking the game to the opposition.

"I love that, fans love it, but as soon as you get in front, hold onto it. At the end, talking about thick some of them, they're in the corner with the ball and they give it away, just shield the ball!

"Get a free-kick or get a corner-kick, don't try a fancy flick [Dejan] Kulusevski, he tries a flick, gives it a goal-kick, whoosh they're up the other end, you can't do that."

Unfortunately for Maupay it was all in vein and former striker Brazil, who played in the 1970's and 80s, has warned him he wouldn't have got away with it in his era.

The Ipswich legend said: "He wouldn't have lasted 90 minutes, he'd have been in 'Row Z', don't worry about that. Imagine Graham Roberts and Steve Perryman [on his team], yeah, see you later."
