And with that, came interest from interested parties but Terry admits that he only knew of two offers made for him during his time at the club.
Huddersfield Town made an audacious move for Terry as did an ambitious Manchester City a year after they were taken over by Sheikh Mansour's Abu Dhabi United Group.
Terry was coming off the back of his agonising penalty miss in the 2008 Champions League final defeat to Manchester United in Moscow, but even that could not have forced away of the club of his heart.

"Man City approached Chelsea, made an offer official," Terry revealed in an Instagram chat with Stephen Hendry in 2020.
"I sat with the owner, face-to-face and said 'I never want to leave Chelsea, that's a fact. If you want to sell me then it's a different story, I clearly don't want to stay. But I'm telling you off the bat that I never want to leave this football club'.
"Within that, I was due a new contract, we shook hands on a new contract, agreed a deal and I stayed another five, six years after that."

Terry went on to win five Premier League titles and five FA Cups. He added three League Cup triumph's to his bulging trophy cabinet and captured European success helping Chelsea win both the Europa League and Champions League.
The former England captain was unable to get his wish of never leaving Stamford Bridge and ended his playing career at Aston Villa.
Terry has forged out a new path in coaching and spent three years alongside former Villa boss Dean Smith, helping the Midlands club achieve promotion to the Premier League.
