Spurs talisman Kane - who became Tottenham's all-time goalscorer earlier this season - scored in what turned out to be the only silver lining on an otherwise miserable day for Tottenham in the North East.
But despite the Red Devils being in fine spirits after beating Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday, Ten Hag has emphasised his side won't be underestimating the threat Kane - who has been regularly linked with United - poses in attack.
"It is quite clear his impact on the game from Spurs," Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference at Carrington on Wednesday.

"And we have a plan, of course, for that and in the home game we did very well.
"So, yeah, for tomorrow, we need a very good plan as well. You have to defend as a team and he is a clever player, so don't allow him to come in the situations where he can have a big impact on the game."
Given Tottenham's players released a statement condemning their performance from the weekend, it's clear Spurs' stars will be desperate to put things right with their fanbase with Ryan Mason now at the helm.

But Ten Hag believes that as long as his side stay 'more hungry' than the home side, they can beat Spurs, just as they did in the reverse fixture in October that saw Fred and Bruno Fernandes fire them to a 2-0 victory.
"It's obvious they had a really bad defeat and, of course, they are mad and that can be fuel for bouncing back," he explained.
"But like I said, it is about us. An opponent can never be more hungry [than] we [are].
"That is how we have to prepare for the game and we have to be ready to go on the front foot and be dominant and dictate the game."

A win for Man United will see them go above the Magpies into third, whilst all three points for Spurs will keep their top four hopes alive, with them currently six points off in sixth.
