The Blues have completed their first major signing of the summer, with Raheem Sterling joining from Manchester City in a £50million deal.
The transfer floodgates look set to open for the Blues, with Thomas Tuchel looking to shake up the defence having lost the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen earlier this summer.
Kalidou Koulibaly looks set to come next, the Senegal centre-back to join in a £35m deal from Napoli.
And talkSPORT understands Tuchel won't be done there with Chelsea also planning to step up their interest in PSG's Presnel Kimpembe too.
Chelsea are also set to come back to Man City with Dutch defender Nathan Ake keen to leave in pursuit of first-team football.
If they get all these deals done, Chelsea appear a different prospect all of a sudden and talkSPORT's Darren Ambrose suggested Tuchel's men could catch Premier League champions City.
After the Sterling deal was announced, Ambrose told talkSPORT: "It's a fantastic signing.
"I'm actually shocked that Manchester City have allowed this to happen and go to potentially a rival.
"The more signings Chelsea make the closer they get to Manchester City.
"It's an outstanding deal for Chelsea. He's massively underrated, he's got a fantastic record in my opinion and does great for England. He's going to massively improve the attack for Chelsea.
"He's only 27 as well. He's committed long-term by signing a five-year deal… it's a brilliant signing for Chelsea."
