The right-back sustained an injury just minutes before he was set to be substituted in his fifth pre-season appearance against Real Madrid, meaning James is yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season and is not expected to return until mid-September.

Romeo Lavia

Status: Minor doubt

Type of injury: Thigh

Possible return date: August 29 (vs. Servette)

Lavia, who endured an injury-ravaged first season with the Blues in 2023-24 and made only one appearance, is at risk of missing Thursday's match due to a reported tight hamstring after also being absent from the victory against Wolves at the weekend.
