Sao Paulovs.Talleres

sportsmole.co.uk, 27 May 2024, 23:08
Sao Paulo and Talleres close out their respective Copa Libertadores group-stage campaigns with a meeting at Estadio Do Morumbi on Thursday.

Having both secured a place in the knockout stages, the teams now seek to qualify as group winners in what should be an entertaining affair.

Match preview

Sao Paulo dropped points for the second time in five continental matches this term following a goalless stalemate against Ecuadorian side Barcelona on May 17.

Luis Zubeldia's men dominated proceedings for large spells of the contest but were made to rue their wasteful finishing in front of goal as they had to make do with a share of the spoils.

Thanks to first-half strikes from Lucas Moura and Erick, O Clube da Fe claimed a 2-0 win over Aguia De Maraba on Friday to secure safe passage into the last 16 of this year's Copa do Brasil.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who are unbeaten across the previous three editions of this fixture, winning two and drawing one.

Having conceded just once in their last four home matches, Thursday's hosts will be looking to put on another solid defensive display in front of their fans en route to a positive result.

Talleres Cordoba narrowly edged out Chilean side Cobresal 1-0 when the teams went head to head at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes on May 14.

Walter Ribonetto's men were in the ascendancy for the majority of the clash but had to wait until the 82nd minute to break the deadlock through Federico Girotti.

With 13 points picked up from their five Copa Libertadores matches this term, La Albiazul sit top of Group B, three points clear of their next opponents.

Unbeaten in eight consecutive away matches leading up to Thursday's contest, the visitors have proven themselves to be a tough nut to crack on enemy territory of late.

Team News

Lucas Moura could be rewarded with a second straight start for Sao Paulo having found the back of the net on his first start in seven weeks last time out.

Wellington Rato is still out of contention for the hosts through injury as the midfielder remains without an appearance since early April.

Talleres' Ruben Botta put on a man-of-the-match display in the reverse fixture and the Argentine will be looking to come up trumps once again.

Matias Catalan is set to sit out a fourth consecutive game for the visitors but the 31-year-old is closing in on a return to full fitness.

Sao Paulo possible starting lineup:

Jandrei; Moreira, Costa, Ferraresi, Patryck; Galoppo, Gustavo; Nestor, Moura, Erick; Silva

Talleres possible starting lineup:

Herrera; Navarro, Suarez, Portillo, Benavidez; Portillo, Ortegoza; Sosa, Botta, Depietri; Girotti

We say: Sao Paulo 2-1 Talleres
