Earlier this year, Chelsea announced that they had finalised a deal for the 17-year-old who will move to Stamford Bridge in July for a fee that could eventually reach €57m.
Chelsea were only prevented from bringing Estevao to London earlier than next summer due to FIFA regulations, yet the teenager remaining in his homeland is proving to be a blessing in disguise.
A former Arsenal scout suggested earlier this week that Chelsea should consider using Estevao in their Under-21 ranks to prepare him for the rigours of the Premier League.
However, Estevao is continuing to perform to such a level in the Brasileirao that anything other than senior football for the Blues is becoming unrealistic.
What record has Estevao broken?
Estevao is currently preparing for another stint with the Brazil national team having been selected for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Venezuela and Uruguay.
Nevertheless, the South American prodigy did not allow that selection to distract him on Friday night as he netted the only goal of the game in a win over Gremio.
This was not one of Estevao's trademark wonder strikes. He was on hand to convert from close range after a shot had been spilled by Gremio goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin.
That made it 12 goals and eight assists from just 27 appearances in the Brasileirao this campaign, a remarkable return given his age and lack of experience.
In reaching 20 such contributions for the 2024 campaign, Estevao has become the first player below the age of 18 to achieve such a feat.
Neymar had previously held the record with his 16 goals or assists during the 2013 season with Santos prior to his transfer to Barcelona.
A crucial goal in the title race?
Palmeiras have been scrambling to remain competitive in the Serie A title race at a time when leaders Botafogo are on a 10-match unbeaten run.
Estevao's goal ensured that Palmeiras remained with three points of the frontrunners with five matches remaining, albeit with Botafogo still possessing a game in hand.
The two teams are due to square off at Palmeiras' Allianz Parque stadium on November 27.
