Paderborn kick off US tour with seven-goal thriller against Minnesota United

Sirlord Conteh cancelled out an early goal from Minnesota's Bakaye Dibassy, when he connected with fellow summer signing Adrian Gryszkiewicz's cross. Jacori Hayes restored the hosts' lead late in the first half, but Paderborn were level again soon after the restart. Johannes Dörfler found the feet of fellow half-time substitute Marco Schuster, who arrowed an unstoppable effort into the top corner from 18 yards.

Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Leo Zingerle could do nothing to stop Luis Amarilla and Aziel Jackson from giving Minnesota a two-goal cushion, but Paderborn went within a goal of tying an entertaining contest 10 minutes from normal time when Jonas Carls applied the finishing touch to ex-Borussia Dortmund youngster Richmond Tachie's surging run and deflected cross from the right.

"I think we'll be telling the grandchildren about that one," smiled Paderborn head coach from inside Minnesota's Allianz Field after the game.

"A fantastic opponent, a fantastic backdrop - it was really something. It's the first time the German national anthem has been sung in this stadium. It was a wonderful experience. We learned a lot, but more than anything thoroughly enjoyed the evening."

Paderborn will travel to Wisconsin and Illinois, before playing the second and final friendly of their US summer tour, against Forward Madison, on Wednesday. The Bundesliga 2 outfit will also attend a local German school, a basketball game and the University of Wisconsin.

"As well as laying the foundations for a successful season, the USA tour is a wonderful opportunity to showcase German football to the US public," said Paderborn CEO Fabian Wohlgemuth of the trip.
