The 24-year-old spent time with Valencia and Manchester City before completing a move to Barcelona in January 2022.
The Spain international has made 114 competitive appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring 25 goals and providing 13 assists.
While he has featured in over 100 matches for Barcelona, Torres struggled for regular game time last season, starting just 13 league matches under Xavi.
Torres would have been encouraged to start Saturday's 2-1 win over Valencia under new Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick.
However, there is no guarantee that he will be a regular starter under Flick, especially if Barcelona recruit another attacker.
Newcastle to table Torres bid
According to Football Insider, Newcastle are preparing to submit a bid for Torres after identifying the Barcelona man as a potential target.
The report claims the Magpies are readying an 'attractive offer', with Barcelona believed to be open to offers for a player who is under contract until June 2027.
The Blaugrana are ready to offload players to raise funds as they look to improve their financial position so they can bring in reinforcements.
However, Newcastle may struggle to prise Torres away from Barcelona, with the player happy at Barcelona and in no immediate rush to return to the Premier League.
Newcastle looking for attacking reinforcements
Newcastle have bolstered Eddie Howe's squad with the additions of Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lewis Hall, Lloyd Kelly and William Osula.
While Osula has bolstered Howe's forward options, the Magpies are keen to recruit a new attacker who can operate as a wideman.
In addition to Torres, Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Chelsea's Noni Madueke, who may struggle to get regular game time at Stamford Bridge this season.
The Magpies are looking to add to their current wide options which include Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.
