The Citizens are set to turn their focus back to domestic action after crashing out of the Champions Legaue in midweek.
Man City fell to a 3-1 loss in Wednesday's away clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout round playoffs, condemning Pep Guardiola's side to a 6-3 aggregate defeat.
They are now preparing for another difficult test in Sunday's fixture, with the reigning Premier League champions looking to hinder Liverpool's title bid.
Ederson targeting history
Man City may not be in the Premier League title race, but they will be searching to secure three points to aid their bid to secure Champions League qualification.
Barring any surprises, Ederson will feature between the posts for the Citizens, with the Brazilian tasked with thwarting Liverpool's array of attacking talent.
While he will be focused on keeping Liverpool at bay, Ederson could help Man City in their attacking efforts, especially as he has the chance to create Premier League history.
The Brazilian has registered three assists in the top flight this season, including two in his last two Premier League appearances against Chelsea and Newcastle United to equal Shay Given and Pepe Reina in being the only goalkeepers to record assists in back-to-back games in the competition's history.
The 31-year-old now has the chance to become the first goalkeeper to register an assist in three consecutive Premier League matches.
Man City eyeing clean sheet feat
Ederson will also want to help Man City record back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in the Premier League this season.
They have the chance to achieve that feat after recording a shutout in last Saturday's 4-0 home win over Newcastle United.
The Citizens last recorded consecutive Premier League clean sheets in May 2024 when they followed a 4-0 win over Fulham with a 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
However, keeping a clean sheet against the league's highest scorers will certainly be easier said than done, especially as they have not recorded a shutout against Liverpool since running out 4-0 winners in July 2020.
