Hoffenheimvs.Spurs

sportsmole.co.uk, 20 January 2025, 07:55
Teetering on the brink of full-blown crisis mode, Tottenham Hotspur resume their quest for a Europa League knockout place against Hoffenheim on Thursday evening.

Ange Postecoglou's men are arguably in the Premier League relegation picture after Sunday's chastening 3-2 loss at David Moyes's Everton, which left them in a lowly 15th place in the rankings.

Spurs have also slipped out of the top eight of the 36-team Europa League league phase table, having failed to win any of their last three games in the tournament after taking nine points from the first nine on offer.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Tottenham's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the showdown with Hoffenheim, who currently sit outside the top 24 spots with just six points on the board.

Radu Dragusin

Status: Major doubt

Type of injury: Face

Possible return date: January 23 (vs. Hoffenheim)

Radu Dragusin endured a nightmare first 45 against Everton before coming off at half time, perhaps owing to a nasty facial injury, and he has seemingly emerged as a doubt for the clash with Hoffenheim.

Dominic Solanke

Status: Out

Type of injury: Knee

Possible return date: February 26 (vs. Manchester City)

It is one crushing blow after another for Tottenham at the minute, as Dominic Solanke is now facing at least a month out with a freak knee injury sustained in a recent training session.

Yves Bissouma

Status: Out

Type of injury: Knock

Possible return date: January 26 (vs. Leicester City)

Yves Bissouma could not pit his wits against Everton owing to a knock, which should also rule him out of this affair, although Postecoglou expects the Mali international to be fine for the meeting with Leicester City this weekend.

Brennan Johnson

Status: Out

Type of injury: Calf

Possible return date: February 16 (vs. Manchester United)

Postecoglou revealed at full time on Sunday that Brennan Johnson's new calf injury would render him unavailable for the next three to four weeks, decimating Spurs' attacking ranks further.

Timo Werner

Status: Out

Type of injury: Hamstring

Possible return date: February 16 (vs. Manchester United)

Likewise, Timo Werner is also thought to be targeting a return from his hamstring injury in mid-February, but he has struggled to make an impact on this Spurs side when fully fit anyway.

Fraser Forster

Status: Minor doubt

Type of injury: Illness

Possible return date: January 23 (vs. Hoffenheim)

Fraser Forster was missing from the matchday squad yet again at Goodison Park following an illness, but he is training again and could force his way into the squad in midweek.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Status: Out

Type of injury: Head

Possible return date: January 26 (vs. Leicester City)

Rodrigo Bentancur is currently in the two-week protocol period following his worrying head injury against Liverpool, so while this match will come too soon, he is on track to be fit for the Leicester City contest on Sunday.

Destiny Udogie

Status: Out

Type of injury: Hamstring

Possible return date: February 16 (vs. Manchester United)

Destiny Udogie is yet to take to the field in 2025 due to his moderately severe hamstring injury, one that will keep him out of action for another few weeks.

Guglielmo Vicario

Status: Out

Type of injury: Ankle

Possible return date: February 25 (vs. Manchester City)

Guglielmo Vicario is continuing his rehabilitation from the ankle fracture he sustained against Manchester City in November, and he remains on course to be back in between the posts by the end of February.

Cristian Romero

Status: Out

Type of injury: Thigh

Possible return date: January 26 (vs. Leicester City)

Cristian Romero should soon be nearing a return from the thigh injury he sustained last month, but there is no chance that the Argentina international will be risked for the meeting with Hoffenheim.

Micky van de Ven

Status: Out

Type of injury: Hamstring

Possible return date: January 26 (vs. Leicester)

Similarly, Romero's regular centre-back partner Micky van de Ven is on the cusp of coming back from his own hamstring problem, but do not expect him to make the trip to Germany.

Wilson Odobert

Status: Out

Type of injury: Hamstring

Possible return date: Unknown

New arrival Wilson Odobert has experienced a disrupted start to life in North London due to two separate hamstring injuries, and his latest concern required an operation in November, one that he is still rehabilitating from.

TOTTENHAM'S SUSPENSION LIST

Tottenham have no players suspended for this game.
