Ed Woodward could make football return with company tied to Premier League club

Woodward spent 17 years at Old Trafford, leaving the club in 2022.

After helping advise the Glazers during their takeover of the club in 2005, Woodward was recruited by United.

He later joined the board before becoming executive vice-chairman, a position he held for a decade until his exit in February 2022.

During his time in the role, United won the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The 53-year-old is now being lined up for a new position in football which could see him work with another Premier League club.

Sky News report that Woodward has been approached to join the board of Eagle Football Group.

The American company have five clubs around the world in their ownership portfolio, including a minority stake in Crystal Palace.

Eagle Football Group also own French side Lille, Copa Libertadores winners Botafogo, who are from Colombia, and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.

A football academy in the USA called FC Florida is also part of the group.

Meanwhile, the report adds that Woodward is being lined up to become an independent director ahead of the company being listed on the Stock Exchange.

It is not yet known whether his appointment will go through, though, with the role his first mainstream job in football since leaving United should he take it.

Woodward was previously appointed to the board of trustees for the Bloomsbury Football Foundation last year.

The London-based charity offers inclusive football programmes to young people in the capital.

Eagle Football Group is hoping to become a public company within the next two weeks.

The company is controlled by businessman John Textor, who has been trying to sell his 45 per cent stake in Palace.

Textor may now keep hold of his stake, however, after missing out on the chance to buy Everton.

The Toffees were instead taken over by the Friedkin Group back in December.
