Head coach Edin Terzic is confident that experienced defender Mats Hummels will be fit to feature despite being forced off in last weekend's heavy 4-1 Bundesliga loss at RB Leipzig with a cut to his shin.
Ian Maatsen served a domestic suspension last weekend along with Emre Can, but the Chelsea loanee has also been dealing with a minor muscle issue and is set to be assessed ahead of kickoff; Can, meanwhile, is in contention to start in midfield.
Donyell Malen is also an injury doubt having missed Dortmund's last three games with a thigh problem, while both Ramy Bensebaini (knee) and Sebastien Haller (ankle) remain in the treatment room.
With Hummels currently a doubt for Wednesday, Niklas Sule is waiting in the wings should his services be required, while Julian Ryerson is ready to start again at left-back in the potential absence of Maatsen.
Both Salih Ozcan and Felix Nmecha are at risk of losing their places in centre-midfield to Can and Marcel Sabitzer, but Julian Brandt could retain his spot in the number 10 role, keeping Marco Reus out of the first XI.
Karim Adeyemi only played the first 45 minutes against Leipzig, but he is fit to continue on the right side of attack, with Jadon Sancho - who scored last weekend - set to operate on the opposite flank as top scorer Niclas Fullkrug leads the line and looks to add to his 14 goals in all competitions.
Borussia Dortmund possible starting lineup: Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Maatsen; Sabitzer, Can; Adeyemi, Brandt, Sancho; Fullkrug
