Crystal Palacevs.Everton

sportsmole.co.uk, 14 February 2025, 18:01
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah are all set to return to the matchday squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with Everton at Selhurst Park.

All three players were unavailable to represent the Eagles in Monday's 2-0 victory away against Doncaster Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Cup due to fitness concerns.

Eze has been nursing a niggling foot injury since December and was given a 10-day rest to alleviate the pain he had been feeling after playing for half an hour in Palace's 2-0 Premier League win at Manchester United.

Nketiah has missed Palace's last two games since twisting his ankle in training, while Sarr was forced to miss the win at Doncaster through illness.

However, the Eagles trio have all taken part in training this week and Glasner believes they are all able to feature in some capacity against Everton.

Glasner delivers latest Crystal Palace injury update

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Glasner said: "Fortunately, there are no new issues and all three are back. All three trained and are available tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Glasner has confirmed that midfielder Adam Wharton is fit to start his first Premier League match since undergoing groin surgery in October last year, after playing for 62 minutes against Doncaster.

"It was surprising he could play 60 minutes," Glasner added. "Even then he said, 'oh, come on, I'd like to play more!'

"He did well. He trained the whole week - no reaction on the load - and he had a good week again. I think he's ready and now, with the other players back, it's maybe tough - but it's the best situation you can have as manager.

"We have him, Will Hughes and [Jefferson] Lerma in midfield. We have several options in our front three, the same as our wing-backs. We have a good situation, of course, and we want to keep this for the next three months."

Chilwell "ready to start" for Palace against Everton

New signing Ben Chilwell was handed his Palace debut as a substitute against Doncaster and Glasner has revealed that the Chelsea loanee is now "ready to start" his first game for the club.

"For me, every player who is in the squad has to be able to start, otherwise it makes no sense," said the Austrian. "Ben is ready to start. That doesn't meant that he starts [against Everton] because also [Tyrick Mitchell] did well - it's now to find the best mix.

"We've been quite successful the last weeks and we want to stay consistent, but it's good to have options. There will be busier periods in the next months; now we have one week until Fulham [away], but then we have the next three-game week.

"Every player wants to play football, that's why they have this job and why they are doing it. Of course it was good for Ben to be back in team training, to be back in a game, because [he was] always training individually [at Chelsea] and a lot of time in the gym, and then you have to become a weightlifter and not a football player!

"He's a football player, he's a great football player, and that's why I think he also enjoyed it."

Three players who remain sidelined for Crystal Palace are Chadi Riad, Cheick Doucoure (both knee) and Joel Ward (calf); the former two are ruled out for the rest of the season, while there is currently no timeframe on the latter's potential return.

Palac currently sit 12th in the Premier League table, four points behind the top 10 and three points above Saturday's opponents Everton, who sit 15th and 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
