Chelsea scout Gyokeres understudy, Casemiro update, West Ham eye Newcastle star

talksport.com, 11 February 2025, 17:13
The January transfer window may have slammed shut last week, but there are still plenty of deals in the offing.

Premier League clubs have already started drafting their plans for the summer, with more than one Sporting Lisbon front-man on several wish-lists.

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters and Newcastle's Callum Wilson will be free agents in just a few months, so this week the notebook looks at what their futures hold.

Also, could Casemiro and his hefty pay packet still leave Manchester United this month?

Look Harder

Viktor Gyokeres may not be the only Sporting Lisbon striker destined for the Premier League.

Goal machine Gyokeres is believed to be on the radar of his former manager Ruben Amorim at Man United among others.

talkSPORT understands his understudy, Conrad Harder, is also attracting interest from clubs including Chelsea.

The 19-year-old Dane is not as prolific as Gyokeres but has still scored a respectable nine goals in all competitions this term.

Chelsea have had scouts watch Harder, who is valued at €18million (approximately £15m) on several occasions as they look to recruit a new no.9 to compete with Nicolas Jackson.

Peters out

Southampton defender Walker-Peters is set to have his pick of clubs when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

He rejected a January move to Turkish giants Galatasary to let his contract run down.

The versatile England international, who can play either as a right or left-back, is being tracked by both West Ham and Fulham.

Walker-Peters could also be offered a return to old club Tottenham, where he began his career before a £12million switch to Saints in the summer of 2020.

Saints chiefs have already resigned themselves to the fact they have no chance of keeping the 27-year-old.

When there's a Wils there's a way

West Ham are keeping a close eye on Wilson's contract situation at Newcastle ahead of a potential summer move.

Wilson ended a year-long wait for a goal to help the Carabao Cup finalists see off League One Birmingham City in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The 32-year-old is out of contract in the summer and it appears unlikely that Newcastle will take up the option to extend by a year due to his lengthy list of injuries.

West Ham are long-term admirers of Wilson and have made several previous attempts to sign him.

Sources close to the Magpies forward say he is determined to continue playing in the Premier League having also been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia in the recent past.

Homecoming on hold

Man United are yet to receive any contact from Brazilian side Flamengo over a potential return to his homeland for Casemiro, talkSPORT understands.

With Marcus Rashford off their book at least temporarily, Casemiro is now their top earner on wages in the region of £350,000-a-week.

Minority owners INEOS are open to offers for the veteran former Champions League winner as they continue to try and bring down costs at Old Trafford.

With the Brazilian window open until February 28, there is still time for Flamengo to swoop and as a source told talkSPORT this week often the selling club are the last to know.

However, Casemiro would likely have to agree to a substantial pay-cut for this one to get off the ground.
