Charltonvs.Lincoln

sportsmole.co.uk, 3 April 2025, 14:59
Charlton Athletic host Lincoln City in League One this weekend, with the Addicks looking to continue their push for promotion to the Championship.

With just six matches remaining in their season, Charlton are fourth in the standings, comfortably in the playoff zone, and six points off an automatic promotion spot.

Match preview

While Birmingham City have all but mathematically sealed the League One title, the Addicks will still have their eyes on finishing in second place.

The hosts still have to play two of the three teams above them in the league, with games against both Wrexham and Wycombe Wanderers before the end of the campaign, and wins against those sides would drastically increase their chances of automatic promotion.

The Addicks have been in excellent form in recent months under the guidance of Nathan Jones, and they have won 12 of their 18 league fixtures in 2025, losing only three times during that spell.

That form continued in midweek, as Charlton secured a 2-1 victory at Mansfield Town, with goals from Matt Godden and Tyreece Campbell helping the London club to three points.

This weekend, they are back at home, looking to continue their fine form in front of their fans this season.

Charlton have the third-best home record in League One, with 13 wins from 20 games, and only Birmingham and Wrexham have performed better on their own turf this season.

This weekend, they take on a Lincoln side that sit firmly in mid-table in League One, with the Imps all but mathematically secure in the division, and 10 points off the playoff zone.

The playoffs looked a real possibility in January, when they got to within four points of the playoff zone, but with only four wins in the league since the end of January, the dip in form has left their promotion hopes looking unlikely.

In midweek, the Imps secured just their second win in their last seven matches with a 1-0 triumph over Huddersfield Town.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild scored the only goal of the match to put a dent in Huddersfield's own playoff hopes, and narrow the gap between the two sides to eight points.

A win this weekend could potentially move Lincoln closer to the playoff zone, though with six matches remaining, they may have left it too late.

The visitors have had a particularly difficult time on their travels in recent times, having lost four of their last five away fixtures in League One.

The last two matches between the two sides have ended in draws, including the reverse fixture back in December, which saw the two sides play out a goalless draw at LNER Stadium.

Team News

The hosts could be without defender Lloyd Jones, who missed the clash against Mansfield in midweek due to a calf issue.

Should Jones be unavailable, Portsmouth loanee Tom McIntyre is likely to continue in defence in his absence.

Meanwhile, the visitors have a couple of doubts for this match in Ethan Erhahon and Jack Moylan, who are both back in training, but they are lacking in match sharpness.

Elsewhere, Freddie Draper made an appearance from the bench in midweek against Huddersfield following a recent injury, and he should be fit enough to make the squad once again this weekend.

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:

Mannion; Edwards, Gillesphey, McIntyre, Ramsay; Docherty, Coventry, Campbell, Berry, Small; Godden

Lincoln City possible starting lineup:

Wickens; Roughan, Jackson, Hamer, Darikwa; Hamilton, Bayliss, Makama, Hackett-Fairchild, Gardner; Collins

We say: Charlton Athletic 3-0 Lincoln City

The hosts are in fabulous form of late, and we expect that to continue this weekend.
