A major brawl broke out following Tuesday night's Copa Libertadores match between Atletico Mineiro and Boca Juniors, which ended with the Brazilian side progressing on penalties after a controversially disallowed Boca Juniors goal.
After the match, some Boca Juniors players made for the Atletico Mineiro dressing room and police reacted by spraying tear gas. This produced images in which various Boca Juniors players were seen coughing.
Atletico Mineiro president Sergio Coelho was even seen throwing a bottle at Boca Juniors players, while the scene became even more surreal when Marcos Rojo was holding a fire extinguisher to defend himself.
Police take in Boca Juniors players
Boca Juniors were supposed to leave to return to Buenos Aires after the match, but eight members of their delegation were taken to the police station to give statements.
According to Ole, Boca Juniors coach Miguel Angel Russo said that the team would leave with all members or else they'd stay behind in Brazil.
