Joan Laporta, president of the Spanish side, has revealed he is waiting for a response from the Bundesliga champions regarding Lewandowski.
The Poland striker, 33, is entering the final year of his Bayern contract and wants to leave after a glittering eight-year spell at the club.
For the second season running, Lewandowski was the leading goalscorer in Europe's top leagues during the 2021/22 campaign and many consider him the world's best striker on current form.
Bayern are reluctant to sell their star player and reports suggest the German giants would demand at least £43million before they even consider doing business.
Speaking on Thursday, Laporta said: "We made an offer to FC Bayern to sign Lewandowski and we are waiting for their response, I hope their response is positive.
"I want to thank Lewandowski here in public for what he is doing to join us."
Lewandowski has made no secret of his desire to swap the Allianz Arena for the Camp Nou.
Bayern risk losing him for nothing next summer and the situation is already threatening to turn ugly following public comments from the striker.
Lewandowski recently told Polish outlet Sport Onet: "Loyalty and respect are more important than the work. The best thing to do is find a solution together.
"They didn't want to listen to me until the end. Something died inside me and it's impossible to get over that.
"Even if you want to be professional, you can't make up for it.
"No other offers were even considered by me other than that of Barcelona. I want to leave Bayern, that's clear."
He added: "What kind of player will want to go to Bayern knowing that something like this could happen to them? Where is the loyalty and respect then?"
