After 14 months on the sidelines with an ACL rupture, Solly March made a long-awaited return in the 0-0 draw with Brentford as a late sub last time out, meaning Hurzeler now has five first-team options on the right-wing.

Brajan Gruda has been the man chosen in recent games, but he is under pressure from March, Georginio Rutter, Simon Adingra and Yankuba Minteh to keep his place, despite performing well in Friday's stalemate.

Julio Enciso was also handed his first league start of the season, and was evidently keen to impress, taking a staggering eight first-half shots - the most by any player in the Premier League for almost 12 years.

The Paraguayan started behind Joao Pedro, who let a frustrating night get the better of him and was very fortunate not to be sent off for sending a flying elbow in the direction of Yehor Yarmoliuk, only avoiding punishment for the fact he did not make contact with the Brentford midfielder.

Pedro started due to injuries for both Evan Ferguson and Danny Welbeck, and they both remain doubtful ahead of this trip to Villa Park, so the Brazilian may keep his place up top.

James Milner is the one certain absentee for the away side, with Hurzeler hopeful Ferdi Kadioglu and Jack Hinshelwood will return imminently from recent setbacks.

Elsewhere, Mats Wieffer is still doubtful after picking up a knock against West Ham United before Christmas, while Adam Webster's return has been slightly delayed in recent weeks.
