Matheus Santos Carneiro da Cunha (born 27 May 1999), commonly known as Matheus Cunha, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for La Liga club Atletico Madrid.
Club Career
Cunha joined FC Sion from Coritiba in 2017. He finished his first season in the Swiss club with 10 league goals. On 24 June 2018, Cunha joined Bundesliga club RB Leipzig on a five-year-deal.
On 31 January 2020, Hertha BSC announced the signing of Matheus Cunha on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
On 25 August 2021, he joined Atletico Madrid on a 5-year deal.
International Career
With Brazil's under-23 team, Cunha was the top scorer of the 2019 Toulon Tournament and the 2020 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament, winning the former and finishing as runner-up in the latter. On 17 June 2021, he was named in the squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics. On 28 July, Cunha scored his 19th goal for Brazil's under-23s in a 3–1 group stage win over Saudi Arabia, overtaking Ronaldinho's record as the side's all-time top scorer.
