Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is confident that the Red Devils will be able to "recover some players" for their next match away to Everton in the Premier League on February 22.

The Red Devils were missing 12 players through a mixture of illness and injury against Tottenham Hotspur, and the 20-time English champions suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ange Postecoglou's side.

Man United had a number of chances to find the back of the net against Spurs but were unable to make the most of some clear openings, and Amorim said that was the difference between the two sides on the afternoon.

"It was the difference of the game, they scored and we didn't. We had the opportunities. We had situations in transitions, trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn't," Amorim told BBC Sport.

"We want to recover the players, I think we can recover some players for the next game. We have to be together to finish the season and start over."

Obi make his Man United debut as a late substitute against Tottenham

Amorim waited until the 91st minute to make a change in North London, with Chido Obi coming on for his first-team debut, and the Man United head coach has explained why he was reluctant to look to his bench.

"It is the hardest competition in the world. I am trying to be careful with them. I felt the team was pushing for the goal and I felt I don't want to change. But they will play," he insisted, with academy players Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Elyh Harrison, Sekou Kone, Jack Fletcher, Jack Moorhouse and Ayden Heaven all left in reserve.

"You try to read the game, understand what you see in training. The team were pushing for the goal and I didn't feel the need to change. I am not worried. I understand our fans, what the media think about it. I hate to lose, that feeling is the worst.

"The rest I am not thinking about. I am here to help my players. I understand my situation, my job, I am confident on my work and I just want to win games. The place in the table is my worry, I am not worried about me."

Obi has 12 goals in 12 appearances for Man United at Under-18s and Under-21s level this term, but the 17-year-old was not introduced until the final moments.

Which players could be back for Man United against Everton?

Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans and Lisandro Martinez have been joined on the sidelines by Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo, and all six will again be unavailable for selection against Everton.

However, Christian Eriksen, Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte could all be back next weekend to boost the midfield options available to Amorim, while Leny Yoro may also be available.

Senior goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton were again missing on Sunday; it is also possible that one or both could be available against Everton, although Andre Onana will continue between the sticks unless he picks up an injury issue in training in the coming week.
