High-flying Newcastle United welcome another in-form side in Bournemouth to St James' Park for an intriguing Premier League clash on Saturday lunchtime.

The Magpies extended their superb winning run in all competitions to nine matches when they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 on home soil on Wednesday night.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw at Chelsea after conceding a 95th-minute equaliser, and they subsequently sit eighth in the Premier League table, four points behind Newcastle in fourth place.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 20

Newcastle wins: 7

Draws: 7

Bournemouth wins: 6

Newcastle United and Bournemouth have faced each other a total of 20 times across all competitions, with the Magpies just edging the head-to-head record having posted seven wins to the Cherries' six, while there have also been seven draws between these two teams.

The very first meeting between these two sides took place back in November 1963 when Bournemouth - known as Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic at the time - claimed a 2-1 home victory in the third round of the League Cup.

Newcastle gained revenge in the FA Cup third round 10 years later, before winning just one of their next four meetings with Bournemouth in all tournaments (D1 L2).

Since Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 2015, the Cherries have come out on top in only three of their 13 top-flight encounters with the Cherries, including back-to-back victories in March 2016 (3-1) and November 2017 (1-0) under former boss Eddie Howe, who is now in charge of the Magpies.

Newcastle have won a total of five times in the Premier League against Bournemouth, while they also secured a narrow 1-0 home victory over the Cherries in an EFL Cup fourth round tie in December 2022.

Since then, the Magpies have failed to win any of their last four top-flight meetings with Bournemouth, including three score draws. The most recent encounter between the two teams ended 1-1 at the Vitality Stadium in August 2024.
