Manchester United will be without the services of both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte for their next Premier League against Newcastle United, with the pair set to be absent through suspension.

Fernandes was handed his third red card of the season in the team's 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday, with the Red Devils captain sent off in the early stages of the second period.

Ugarte, meanwhile, picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign in the two-goal defeat, and both players will now be banned for the league contest with Newcastle at Old Trafford on Monday night.

"I am always frustrated with the red card, but it can happen as he always wants to go for the ball," Man United head coach Ruben Amorim told reporters when asked about the Fernandes red card after the clash at Molineux.

"It is not like he wants to stop the player with a yellow [card]. He wanted to go for the ball, the guy got there first and there is a contact and that thing is tough on him also."

Amorim will therefore have to make at least two changes to his side for the clash with Newcastle, with Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee among those in contention to start.

Amorim delivers verdict on latest setback for Man United

"We have to improve the relationships but we have some moments, I think we lack a little bit of aggression, but we train, we try to find a better way to win games, but we controlled the games, like the other ones we lost," Amorim said after the clash with Wolves.

"I think we were always in control, not always dominating, but in control, but the same things, set-pieces and also the sending off was really hard for us. I said it before everybody: it will be a long journey and this moment will be really tough. We have to continue. We need to have time to train.

"It was two different parts. We play 45 minutes without one man. It was tough for us, [but] we didn't suffer a lot of chances. Even with 10 men, we are near their goal during the second half but, again, one set-piece changes the game, [and makes it] even harder.

"We controlled the first half. Sometimes we lose the ball, Wolves make some transitions, but we are in control of the game. We had a little bit of a lack of aggression in the last third but we were in control in the game. Then we have the second half to do something more, but then the player is sent off, it's really hard for us.

"That situation [the response to the goal] was good because you can feel it, even in the stadium and the other team. We pushed the other team with 10 men, near their box, but in the end, lots to improve."

Where are Man United in the Premier League table?

Man United have now suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats to Bournemouth and Wolves, conceding five times in the process, and they have dropped to 14th spot in the Premier League table.

The 20-time English champions are only six points above the relegation zone, while they are 11 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

The Red Devils are not in a top-four race this season and will also find it incredibly difficult to make the top five, with the team looking over their shoulder, as the threat of an unthinkable relegation looms large.
