Alexander-Arnold was forced off with a thigh injury shortly after the hour in their 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend, with manager Arne Slot claiming he would be surprised if the full-back is fit to return in time for this one.

That should see Conor Bradley deputise, with Liverpool's only other injury also coming in a similar position, as Joe Gomez is still sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Slot will still have a strong squad to choose from here, and that was bolstered by the returns of Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones to the matchday squad at the weekend, with the latter coming off the bench and providing an assist.

Both could remain on the bench here though, with Jones battling against Dominik Szoboszlai for a spot in midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Another injury-hit campaign has seen Jota fall down the pecking order in Liverpool's attack, especially given the form of Cody Gakpo, who is having his finest spell since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven two years ago.

Gakpo has scored 11 of his 15 goals this season at Anfield, and is also the EFL Cup's joint-top scorer with four, largely thanks to a brace in the thrashing of West Ham United in round three, Liverpool's only home match in this competition to date.

There is no doubt about who the main man is though, as Mohamed Salah added another two goals to his tally for the season at the weekend, now sitting on 25 across all competitions.

The other positions still in contention in the Liverpool XI are in goal and at left-back, and it is likely experienced pair Alisson and Andy Robertson will get the nod over Caoimhin Kelleher and Kostas Tsimikas.
