However, Liverpool failed to make it through the match unscathed, with Alexander-Arnold forced off in the 66th minute with a thigh issue.

Speaking after the match, Slot admitted that he was concerned by the injury issue, revealing that the full-back "felt something" before his withdrawal.

Alexander-Arnold escapes serious injury

Fortunately for Slot and Liverpool, The Times are reporting that scans have shown that Alexander-Arnold has avoided serious injury.

As a result, the England international is only expected to be out of action "for days rather than weeks", which will come as a massive relief for everyone associated with Liverpool.

However, Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to be ready for Thursday's home meeting with Spurs in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals.

Liverpool are trailing 1-0 following last month's away leg, but if they are to overturn that deficit, they will have to do it without the services of their first-choice right-back.

However, the Reds have a more than capable deputy in Conor Bradley, who has largely impressed when called upon this season.

When could Alexander-Arnold return to action?

Liverpool's next match after the Tottenham clash will take play on Sunday when they travel to Home Park for an FA Cup fourth-round meeting with Plymouth Argyle.

However, the Reds may decide against risking Alexander-Arnold for that cup tie even if proves his fitness in time for the trip to Devon.

As a result, the 26-year-old will most likely be focusing on getting himself ready for next week's Merseyside derby against Everton.

Liverpool will try to extend their 19-game unbeaten league run when they make the short trip for what will be the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
