Leicester0 - 3Man Utd

sportsmole.co.uk, 16 March 2025, 21:01
Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho both ended long goalscoring droughts in Manchester United's 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday night.

Hojlund brought a 21-game run without a goal to an end with a strike in the first half of the Premier League fixture, before Garnacho ended a 24-match drought with an effort in the second period, but the visitors were not finished there.

Indeed, Bruno Fernandes continued his excellent form with a wonderful strike into the bottom corner to cap an impressive performance from the 20-time English champions against a team surely destined for a return to the Championship.

The victory has seen Man United move into 13th spot in the Premier League table, four points behind 11th-placed Brentford, while Leicester remain in 19th, nine points from 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT

Say it quietly, but Man United finally look a team under Amorim, and this was the perfect way for the Red Devils to enter the March international break, especially considering two of the goalscorers at the King Power Stadium.

Both Hojlund and Garnacho desperately needed a goal, and the pair registered, with the former smashing one into the far corner in the first period, before the latter's power beat the Leicester goalkeeper in the second.

This was a comfortable night for Man United, and almost a perfect one, with a clean sheet also gained, but there will be serious concern when it comes to the injury that the talented Ayden Heaven suffered in the early stages of the second period.

The Red Devils will be hoping that their substantial injury problems ease over the international break, especially with a huge Europa League two-legged quarter-final against Lyon on the horizon.

As for Leicester, they look a team destined to return to the Championship, with the Foxes nine points behind 17th-placed Wolves with only nine games left, and it is so difficult to see them making up the gap.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's side need something special to escape the bottom three late in the campaign, but Man United now look to be heading in the right direction, and they have managed to jump up two spots in the table courtesy of their win.

LEICESTER VS. MAN UNITED HIGHLIGHTS

Rasmus Hojlund goal vs. Leicester (27th min, Leicester 0-1 Man United)

Hojlund's goal drought is over! The Denmark international collects a pass from Fernandes before firing into the bottom corner of the net to send Man United ahead at the King Power Stadium; the striker is back on the scoresheet.

57th min: Alejandro Garnacho (Man United) disallowed goal

Garnacho looks to have doubled Man United's lead after finding the back of the net with a powerful finish after good work from Hojlund, but the offside flag comes to Leicester's rescue on this occasion.

Alejandro Garnacho goal vs. Leicester (67th min, Leicester 0-2 Man United)

Garnacho has his goal this time, with the Argentina international smashing the ball into the back of the net from just inside the penalty box; the Leicester goalkeeper got a glove on it, but he was unable to prevent the forward from getting his name on the scoresheet.

Bruno Fernandes goal vs. Leicester (90 min, Leicester 0-3 Man United)

Man United have their third in the final stages, as Fernandes fires a cross from Diogo Dalot into the back of the net - it is a stunning finish from the Portugal international, and the Red Devils are going to win this 3-0.

MAN OF THE MATCH - AYDEN HEAVEN

Heaven's night ended in huge disappointment early in the second period, with the centre-back stretchered off the field following a tangle of legs with Leicester's Patson Daka.

There are now huge concerns when it comes to the 18-year-old, but he was sensational in the opening 45 minutes, being brilliant both on and off the ball, and he is deserving of this award despite another stunning display from the captain Fernandes.
