Angry Man United fans confront Sir Jim Ratcliffe outside Craven Cottage

talksport.com, 27 January 2025, 09:40
Angry Manchester United fans confronted Sir Jim Ratcliffe to express their anger at the rising ticket prices.

The Man United minority shareholder was in attendance for the 1-0 victory over Fulham in west London.

But instead of enjoying the game, Ratcliffe's ears were left burning after listening to derogatory chants from the away fans throughout.

Fans at Craven Cottage could be heard chanting "Just like the Glazers, Jim Ratcliffe's a c***," and "£66, taking the p*** again."

That was then followed after the match when some Red Devils' fans approached a car in which Ratcliffe was traveling.

The supporters could be heard saying: "66 f***ing quid, you're taking the p***".

Winding his window down, Ratcliffe said: "Get your photograph, guys," and put his thumb up.

One fan then said: "What are you doing, mate?" before another added: "We're locals. Come on, sort it out."

Clearly unimpressed, Ratcliffe replied: "Oh, come on," before putting his window back up.

As the vehicle remained stationary, the fans then continued.

"You're worse than the Glazers" he was told.

"We pay triple their fans, our prices should be a third of Fulham's," in reference to the difference in wealth between fans in Stretford and west London.

Ratcliffe has attracted huge criticism for a series of controversial decisions, including the call to increase ticket prices to a minimum of £66 mid-season for all tickets at Old Trafford.

As part of the price rise, Man United will be offering no concessions for children or pensioners.

At the time of the announcement, talkSPORT host and supporter of the club Andy Goldstein told Ratcliffe he should 'hang his head in shame'.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, Goldstein said: "I've heard some mixed reviews about Jim Ratcliffe and a lot of people I know who work for Man United have been made redundant and are not happy with - not just because they've lost their job, but they're not happy with him.

"He's laid a lot of people off at Man United and he's now done this - a hike of £26 from £40 to £66 and no concessions for children or pensioners.

"I have to tell you, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the rest of the United board, this is utterly disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

"You're meant to be rewarding loyal fans who stick with you through thick and thin.

"United pride themselves on having some of the best fans in world football and you do this to them?

"I think you should hang your heads in shame because I think it's utterly disgusting that this is how you 'reward' the fans. It's terrible."
