Alejandro Garnacho update: Ruben Amorim addresses Man United forward's future with Napoli, Chelsea 'circling'

sportsmole.co.uk, 26 January 2025, 22:28
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted that he 'does not know' whether Alejandro Garnacho will be leaving the club before the end of the January transfer window.

There is currently a host of speculation surrounding the 20-year-old's future at Old Trafford, with Napoli and Chelsea both keen to sign him in the latter stages of the winter market.

Napoli have confirmed their interest in the forward, and it is understood that the Italian side have already had an offer in the region of £40m turned down for his services.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are allegedly preparing to meet with Man United to discuss a possible switch to Stamford Bridge in the latter stages of the January window.

Garnacho was again in the Red Devils XI against Fulham on Sunday night, but he found it difficult to make his mark in what proved to be a 1-0 success for the visitors.

Garnacho is wanted by Chelsea, Napoli

Amorim was asked about the Argentina international during his post-match press conference, and the Portuguese did not guarantee that the attacker would stay at Old Trafford.

Man United are not actively looking to sell the ex-Atletico Madrid youngster, but serious offers will be considered for financial reasons.

Any sale of Garnacho would count as pure profit under the Premier League's rules surrounding profit and sustainability, and it is believed that the 20-time English champions would be looking for a fee of at least £60m to consider a sale.

"Nobody knows. Anything can happen. He is improving in every department of the game, how he recovers, understanding the game when he defends. I am trying to find the best position for him. I don't know what is going to happen," Amorim told reporters.

Amorim also issued a damning verdict on Marcus Rashford's situation, suggesting that the forward will be leaving Old Trafford before the January window closes.

Will Man United make any signings before the end of window?

Man United continue to be heavily linked with Lecce's Patrick Dorgu, with the 20-year-old said to be the club's leading target in the latter stages of the January market.

The Red Devils are believed to be close to meeting Lecce's valuation, with a deal potentially going through before the end of the window.

However, Amorim has refused to make any promises when it comes to late business.

"We have to be cautious. The rules here and you know that we have to follow the rules, we have made mistakes in the past and we cannot do it now," he told TNT Sports.

Man United have already allowed Antony to join Real Betis on loan for the rest of the season, and the club could also bring in a new attacker alongside a left-sided defender if both Garnacho and Rashford move on.
