Zlatan Ibrahimovic fires bitter shot at Spain after Sweden defeat

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not resist a cheeky jibe at Spain's expense after Sweden fell to a late defeat away from home.

The Spanish have qualified for the World Cup next year in Qatar after a dramatic finish at the Estadio La Cartuja in Sevilla.

In a match that had been tense throughout the 90 minutes, it was the Juventus forward Alvaro Morata who gave the home side the three points with a last-gasp winner.

Dani Olmo had his shot palmed away by Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen but former Chelsea star Morata was on hand to tap the ball in after 86 minutes.

And with Spain just needing a point to qualify from Group B, it was enough to certify them a spot at the next World Cup.

Sweden, on the other hand, needed to win to finish above their opponents and never managed a shot on target.

However, Ibrahimovic insisted that his side had better chances and were more deserving of victory than Luis Enrique's side in a sly dig at La Rosa.

He said: "We played a good game, a very good game. We made a mistake on the goal and they got a shot away and scored from the rebound.

"Otherwise it was a good performance overall, we had good chances, better chances than Spain had."

Spain had started the brighter of the two sides when Pablo Sarabia's brilliant effort came close to flying in after just moments into the match.

But Sweden grew back into the game and Emil Forsberg had two chances to draw blood first only to narrowly miss the target.

Sought-after striker Alexander Isak had the best chance of the game when through on goal in the second-half only to snatch at his chance.

The result means Spain have qualified for their 12th straight World Cup, joining the likes of Belgium, France and Germany at the tournament.

Elsewhere on Sunday night, there was drama in Group A when Portugal hosted Serbia in a crucial clash for both sides.

Fernando Santos' men went into the match heavy favourites and went a goal ahead through Renato Sanches after just two minutes.

But Serbia grew back into the match and earned all three points after Dusan Tadic's equaliser.

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored in injury-time after coming on off the bench to see the Serbs top the group and book a spot at the World Cup at Portugal's expense - who only needed to draw to qualify.

It means Cristiano Ronaldo and co will have to go through the play-offs to stand a chance of making it to Qatar next winter.

With Spain beating Sweden, there is the possibility of Ronaldo meeting Ibrahimovic yet again in a European showdown.

In 2013, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner netted a hat-trick against the Scandinavians to reach the 2014 World Cup - with Ibrahimovic scoring twice in a thrilling 3-2 encounter.
