Sunday's Ligue 1 predictions including Nice vs. Marseille

sportsmole.co.uk, 26 January 2025, 06:05
Le Havre vs. Brest (Sunday, 2.00pm)

Le Havre can end a seven-match winless run across all competitions when they host Brest in Ligue 1 action on Sunday from Stade Oceane.

Last weekend, Les Ciel et Marine came back to earn a 1-1 draw with Reims but remained in 17th position, while Brest moved into the top half of the table in ninth thanks to a 2-1 victory over Rennes.

We say: Le Havre 0-2 Brest

Booking a place in the Champions League knockout phase has enabled Brest to focus their attention on the domestic campaign, and they are beginning to find their form in Ligue 1.

Their opponents are in a tailspin and struggling to find any quality in the attacking third, and we believe that will continue Sunday seeing as Stade Brestois have had their way with the Normandy club through the years.

Nantes vs. Lyon (Sunday, 4.15pm)

Nantes host Lyon this weekend, still looking for their first league victory of 2025, having drawn three consecutive games in Ligue 1.

Les Canaris sit just above the relegation zone in 15th place in the standings, while their visitors are enjoying a more successful campaign, as they are sixth and firmly in the race for European football next season.

We say: Nantes 0-2 Lyon

The visitors have had a tough start to the year, but they should have enough to see off Nantes this weekend.

Lyon's attack should have too much quality for a Nantes defence that have not kept a clean sheet in over a month.

Toulouse vs. Montpellier (Sunday, 4.15pm)

Hoping to continue their push for European football next season, Toulouse host bottom-placed Montpellier HSC in Ligue 1 this weekend.

The home side are eighth in the standings after 18 matches, and they come into this fixture off the back of a well-earned point away to Lyon last time out.

We say: Toulouse 3-0 Montpellier HSC

Despite having a good season, scoring goals has been an issue for the hosts so far this campaign.

However, they are coming up against the worst defence in Ligue 1, so they should be able to score a few here in a comfortable home win.

Lens vs. Angers (Sunday, 4.15pm)

Aiming to avoid back-to-back defeats as they chase down a European berth, Lens will welcome an in-form Angers outfit to Stade Bollaert-Delelis for a Ligue 1 battle on Sunday afternoon.

Les Sang et Or suffered defeat at the hands of title favourites Paris Saint-Germain last time out, whilst Le SCO's on-field triumphs continued at home against Auxerre.

We say: Lens 1-1 Angers

After pushing PSG hard last weekend, Lens should have the ability to earn a result against Angers, despite the visitors enjoying a rich vein of form of late.

Le SCO are unlikely to continue their winning run for much longer, and we suspect that they will be forced to settle for a point at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Nice vs. Marseille (Sunday, 7.45pm)

Striving to claw back a nine-point gap to Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 title race, Marseille will travel to face Nice at Allianz Riviera on Sunday night.

Le Gym were dumped out of Europe in sobering style earlier in the week, whilst Les Olympiens have been afforded a full week to dwell on a draw with Strasbourg last time out.

We say: Nice 1-2 Marseille

After putting their Europa League dreams to bed on Thursday night, Nice will be looking for a Ligue 1 pick-me-up against Marseille this weekend.

Le Gym are eight games unbeaten at their own patch in the league, although we feel that run will be halted when Les Olympiens come to town.
